If youre stuck in a cubicle working for a corporation with questionable products...not so much.

I'm not sure where OP is from, but in a /r/LateStageCapitalism USA, there is a distinction between jobs people are passionate about and jobs people are most efficient at.

For a (fictional) example, Walter White is paid very handsomely for a drug-manufacturing job he hates. The job he's passionate about, teaching high-school chemistry, doesn't pay enough to cover his medical bills. The point is that, in a capitalist system, you don't really get to "choose" your profession if you're playing the game right -- the best strategy in this game is to do what the market demands.

There is a juicy quote from George Soros along the same lines; forget about "passion", the ONE and ONLY consideration when making choices in a capitalist system is MONEY. You should most definitely NOT consider "feels" and "emotions". This jives with TRP.

The MGTOW answer is to opt out of the capitalist game altogether. (Not that I have taken this drastic step.)

I feel like we are the same person, except I hate work. I get paid pretty decent, am salaried and supposed to work 40hours/week, but I actually spend about 35hours in the office and probably only do about 15-20hours of real work in a week.

Other than that, also minimalist, enjoy working out, and unattached to money, success, family, marriage, society. I'm just saving up enough money so I can buy a house with cash in a cheaper part of the country and take a work from home job.

That highly depends on the specific job. Most people would be happy to work for themselves and be self employed, even if that meant working more hours. Unfortunately starting your own business is easier said than done.

Really just depends if you like what you do, not everyone does, which is fine to an extent.

I think if you have inexpensive hobbies you're pretty lucky because then you have a lot more freedom with what to do for work.

As you said, your work doesn't have to be meaningful for you to enjoy it. I've worked for tons of startups creating applications that ultimately end up getting scrapped, but since I had full creative freedom those were actually fun.

No the real "meaningful" stuff I've done has turned out to be the most boring.

But as a programmer, the actual programming part is fine, it's all the rest of the meta bullshit - Timesheets, corporate politics, excessive meetings - this stuff I could do without.

I like a mix of physical and mental Labour. I also enjoy working to some extend, but it also has to be balanced out for me with other things I enjoy, such as going out, working out, relaxing and having sex.
