Have a daughter who is almost 12. Love the shit out of her. I'm divorced and so I have her on weekends. Friday after school until Sunday before she has to get ready for bed. We have a really great relationship and I am glad I have her. We have a ton of fun together, whether it is watching horror movies together, playing tennis, going hiking with our dog or play fighting and wrestling. We share inside jokes. We bake together. She gives me silly makeovers. I love her so much my heart feels like bursting when I think of her.

And even STILL I'd say this guy is right. Even when circumstances are at their best having a kid is a LOT to deal with. Not so much now at this age but the first several years had me really wondering wtf I did with my life. 24/7 responsibility and stress. MASSIVE opportunity costs (can't count the number of things I have missed out on over the years because I had this massive responsibility to deal with).

Any guy reading this who is on the fence about having a kid, just ask yourself one honest question: When you have free time outside of work do you ever, even once, think to yourself "man I wish I had a neverending responsibility to take up this free time?" If so, then have at it. Otherwise, focus on hobbies and friends and just enjoy a low stress life full of freedom and opportunity.

And if my description of the good aspects of being a parent have you wishing you had such a relationship in your life just remember that it will take you YEARS to get there....if you ever do. You might have a kid you can't relate to. Perhaps the ex will poison them against you. Maybe you will come to discover that the resentment you have about the downsides overwhelm you and make it hard to enjoy the positives.
