Your Thoughts on Organ Donations

My organs have a market value. Just as nobody should expect my estate to donate my house to the homeless without compensation (because I'm done living in it), I'm unwilling to donate my organs without some kind of tax benefit to my estate.

The fact that we (in the US) can't be compensated for organ donation is a stupid rule that contributes to a shortage of organs, shortens the lives of would-be recipients, and robs the government of tax revenue which recipients would produce if they lived longer.

In the current system, the only party who doesn't benefit in any way is the donor. The recipient gets a new organ, the hospital gets paid, the doctor and surgical team get paid, and even the guys transporting the organ get paid. Frankly, I think it's kind of BS to expect me to participate for free.

I would be in favor of a system that allowed for a tax credit for organs donated AT DEATH (I don't want people volunteering to sell an eyeball just so they could go on vacation) on a voluntary basis.

I wouldn’t mind being an organ donor but I don’t want to get killed for my organs if I’m in a coma and doctors start pressuring my family to terminate me.

I have no problems with donating my organs. Quite frankly I think it comes down to cultural or personal preference. No one is forcing me to donate.

My perspective is that I would be dead so why would I need them. Hell I'm not even going to have a funeral. Makes no difference to me when I don't exist.

If we are talking organ donations while I am alive. Sorry but it's a hell no. I see absolutely no reason why I should limit my life for another human being. If my organs were to go completely crap (likely from my own bad lifestyle then I would never expect or pressure another person to donate). My body my choice

I don’t do it. I treat it like life insurance. I don’t want to be worth more to someone dead than alive.

Don’t need them when I’m gone. Someone else might. Didn’t believe in it really before I was a resident where they did a lot of solid organ transplants.
