Don't take out loans
Avoid credit cards if you have a problem with spending.
Don't spend money on women.
Learn the hardest shit you can - everyone else is learning the easy stuff. The hard shit makes you the most money with the most durable career.
Don't care what people think about you (very hard to do)
If you're in school to be an electrician, start putting yourself out there as an expert with the things you learn - best done by setting up different social media accounts or blog to talk abotu the things you've learned or (gulp) youtube.
Start your electrician service website NOW NOW NOW!!! For just your local area. It will take months to get noticed by google "Electrician in [Tupolo Mississippi]". By the time you're finished with school the site will be established and even if you work for another company you will be doing work on the side. Don't wait for a freaking job only.
Keep posting in the blog area of your website electrician tips, what you're learning etc. That will boost it immensely.
Every action you take from now on - you think of its consequences 5 years from now, just that alone will guide you on the right path.
When you graduate always take electrician side jobs. ALWAYS. Don't be LAZY about this. This is the path to your own business as you get experience from the main 9-5 job.
Don't approach women or spend time on long term relationships. Focus like a motherfu*ker on your career and business
If you do all of this, by the time you're 25, you will have a house or two, the beginnings of your business and freedom from a 9-5 job.

(Bonus tip: If you plan on living with a women or getting married get a cohabitation agreement or a prenup -- you will have worked hard, why lose all your shit?)

The best thing you can do financially for yourself is to own your own home as soon as possible. Once you have that leverage it into a second house and then again. By the time you are forty , if you haven't married of course you should own two houses. If you can get to 4 or 5 houses by retirement you can live off the rent

Well, you're getting an education for a very reliable trade. That's good.

You're working while you do it, so that's good.

You're living with the folks to save money, HUGE advantage there make the most of it, (one way is to look around at the rental market. Take a lower to median price point on an efficiency or studio, and then try and SAVE that amount every month, that'll highlight just how much of a big help your parents are doing for you by letting you stay at home).

For the car, aim for something used, in good condition, and 2-3 years old. Buy from a dealership if you can. But NEVER buy brand new and for a first car, gas mileage trumps looks. You'll pay more than you would for some hoopty, but you'll have reliable transportation.

Find a mentor in your field. Someone senior who knows their shit. Who had achieved a level of success you would aspire to, and then ask then to mentor you. You would be surprised at how many people really will want to help pass on knowledge and raise up a new crop of tradesmen.

As for dating, well, i'd refer you to Tom Leykis for any and all dating advice at your age.

I would say work in the area that you are gifted in and that you love. So if your passionate about something pursue that. If your doing something you love, it will not feel like WORK or a BURDEN.

Watch your friends really closely, 19 is a vulnerable age where you can get sucked into a bad circle or go the wrong way. It's always good to get experience: whether it be dating, college, jobs, relationships. Learn from everything. Focus on what you want and not what other people want you to do.

If you're planning on acquiring a vehicle I would suggest leasing. The moment you drive off the lot a vehicle drops in value. It depreciates extremely quickly. Unless its a gem, which is so rare. Leasing is the way to go once you start your career.

Until then with the money you save I would suggest investing. If you're in Canada look into a TFSA. If you're in the States I believe its called a Roth IRA. Compound interest on investments that begin at your age... woooowza.. You'll thank me when you get older :)
