She is asking me to pay $1000 a month for 10 years.

That's $144K. Ask your lawyer about how much she can reasonably count on in such a situation. Then, discount the sum at 4%/year, subtract your lawyer's and her lawyer's fees and that's the lump sum she'll be willing to take. I bet it won't be more than $50 grands based on what she wants, not what she's likely to get. Pay her up and never step into that shit again...

Every man knows before getting married what he is getting into because all the evidence is there for any man to see that he will be paying for the rest of his life.

I knew that since I was a kid, an I'm almst 60 and have seen friend after friend get divorce raped and have their life ruined.

I still tell them "I told you so" and I don't feel any compassion for them at all.

Need a lot more info here. Also, 1k a month for 10 years is only $120k. Other poster said $144k incorrectly.

Need details. How long married. How many kids. Your avg income vs hers. Some dads pay $0 and some pay $HUGE. Too many factors to say if those numbers are even legit. I also think she's dreaming, but if you had say 3-4 kids I think you'll be screwed pretty good just from what I know.

Attorney's are a joke. Hope you got money, cuz you are dropping $5k for just the retainer only. And that retainer is used up almost instantly.
Put up a big fight, whatever you do. If she knows you fight hard, she's more likely going to want to settle this instead of dragging it out.
