Todays a hard day. Todays the day I’m surrendering my two dogs to the local humane society. I have been wrestling with this choice for a little over 6 months, and finally made the appointment. For context I’m a father of 1, married. We got our dogs as tiny little puppies, brother and sister, and have had them for 3 years now. Due to some massive changes in our lives (location, careers, parenthood) we no longer have time for them. They deserve to be with someone who has the time to love on them, to play with them, and to just generally take better care. Call a bad pet owner if you must, irresponsible, whatever you want. But in my heart and mind I know this is the right decision, as it will benefit my dogs, and my little family in the long run. Even so, this is killing me. Making the hard decisions comes with being a husband, a father, and I get that. But even if it is the right decision, I feel like I’ll never recover from the sadness it’s causing me. Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.
