So I came across this article a while ago which claims that female animals evolved wild and intricate genitalia as a means of detering undesireable mates, and it got me thinking, isn't the entire explicit point of female genital mutilation to prevent their daughters from "falling in love" and trying to be with someone they actually like?

If we apply Dawkns theory of the selfish gene, it seems very possible that there is a symbiotic relationship between genital mutilating cultures and the genes of inferior mates? Isn't it possible that these inferior genes which would have otherwise been selected against by women making informed choices and found a way to replicate themselves in certain areas by inventing cultures where girls genitals would be mutilated? I mean, its obviously trauma-induced brainwashing technique, and the almost ineveitable PTSD and Stokholm syndrome is bound to screw with their mental capacity in any case, then when they grow up they will naturally be predisposed to coming up with excuses for it because of sunk costs and trauma induced brainwashing/stockholm syndrome. This will virtually guarantee that theydo it to their daughters if they have any.

Wouldn't the same thing occur in the case of MGM? I mean, the egyptians explicitly did it to reduce mate selection among boys.
