Attack On Masculinity

I know that I'm in the minority here on this subreddit, but I've never felt any pressure to change my behavior from anyone.

Before I started dating my girlfriend I slept around a lot and would talk about dating multiple women at the same time to my friends who identify as feminist. I say a lot of politically incorrect things often, but I vote liberal...I've never in the 10 years I've been able to vote once voted for a Republican...third parties I have though.

I live in California, and I grew up in San Francisco. I've never felt like anyone has tried to emasculate me or get me to change. Nobody has told me I was being a toxic Male when I got into a bar fight, made fun of someone, or flirted with a woman.

I can only speak from my own personal experiences, I'm sure everyone here has had a different life than myself. I honestly don't know what this whole issue with "toxic masculinity" thing is. I think it's just a clickbait phrase...and it's just telling people not to be assholes.

What is driving this?

The essence of masculinity is to control one's emotions and to take responsibility for your actions. The world is a much less dangerous place these days. People simply have no more real problems because the physical world has largely been tamed. They increasing act like entitled neurotic children. i.e. like women. They are ruled by their emotions. People now think it's more important for their kids to like them, than to have their kids grow up to be responsible adults.

I wonder if there's a misunderstanding on what toxic masculinity is. Toxic isn't being used as an adjective to describe all masculinity. These are examples I found when I googled it: The pervasive idea of male-female interactions as competition, not cooperation.

The pervasive idea that men cannot truly understand women, and vice versa--and following, that no true companionship can be had between different sexes.

The expectation that Real Men are strong, and that showing emotion is incompatible with being strong. Anger is either framed as the exception to the rule, or as not an emotion.

Relatedly, the idea that a Real Man cannot be a victim of abuse, or that talking about it is shameful.

Men are just like that: the expectation that Real Men are keenly interested in sex, want to have sex, and are ready to have sex most if not all times

The idea that Real Men should be prepared to be violent, even when it is not called for

What exactly is wrong with these?

"behind every strong woman is a group of strong women who have her back" but then also "the patriarchy is oppressing us" but then also you can't name a single good traditionally male role model that is popular and active in America today. You've got Dan bilzerian who's just way on the far of the spectrum (although he seems super chill and frankly men should strive to carry themselves the way he does. Seems super humble/chill guy you'd want to grab a beer with- but the average man can't idolize his life style, and women in bikinis, always may be excessive). You've got Donald Trump who's had just locker room banter that caused an absolute shitshow (another sign of society being way too soft).

None are good role models. The idea that Hollywood is unable to find a good male role model with traditionally male values is complete bullshit. It's a country with 300million people, with the "dreamers" from every single country wanting to move into it. The reason there is no good male role model in Hollywood with traditionally male values, speaking on behalf of male problems is because they don't give a shit and aren't allowing it.

I miss the days of Robin Williams where "busting people's balls" was a thing that was acceptable, so long as proper, easy to understand lines weren't crossed.
