We have high definition Internet porn these days, Paul. It's not like 1992 when teenage boys wore out VHS tapes pause-buttoning Sharon Stone uncrossing her legs. Nobody's shocked or titillated by literalism or gynecological detail any more.

Suggestive and elliptic can be sexy. But not if you have the relentless mechanical eye of Paul Verhoven.

At a recent film festival, I certainly saw some boundary-crossing things. American Pastoral, for example...

But generally speaking, Hollywood has NEVER been where you go for provocation.
