got home so i can ramble on a keyboard rather than a phone, so ill have a go at some of the topics you bring up, namely

What should happen in a divorce where there are children involved? What if there is a divorce and there are NOT children involved? Should alimony be eliminated from law? Why or why not?

Like I'd think if a parent (male or female) is a confirmed drug addict, they should have to get better before having unsupervised privileges. Also, I think there should be an automatic prenup in place. If you owned the house before you got married (again male or female) you should be able to keep it

first thing first, we need to get rid of the bias against men in court. it seems men are always seen as the bad guy and must be made to pay, wether that means making court proceedings totally anonymous even to the judge jury (maybe we call in through a voice synthesizer and our identifying info is replaced with an ID number..) or something else i dunno.

now for a divorce where children are involved..

whoever initiated the divorce loses rights to custody of the kids, child support, and alimony. my reasoning is this, the initiater has chosen to end it, they want out of the marriage and by relation the family. and common sense would dictate that after leaving a marriage you would not get the bonuses of it (alimony). and why should they be able to take the kids from a family the person doesnt even want (kids and child support)? now, this is for a no fault divorce. if something was going on that necessitated the breaking of a marriage ( adultery, cruelty, abandonment, imprisonment ) then they should get alimony, child support, and atleast half custody of kids. If the "abuse" could be aimed at the kids, i think the divorcer should be able to make a case that they are a better care taker. Note; i think the abuse should be proven without a shadow of a doubt, otherwise lies and manipulation can sneak in.

Divorce without kids

as you said above, there should be an automatic pre-nup. property owned before marriage, gifts given soley to you, and inheritance from a will are big items i see being kept to the party. i also think that both parties should have to say whether they are going to be working or staying at home. the reason for this is that by staying at home you are dependent on your partner. by having it in writing, you have proof of your intent and should be able to get alimony should he break up with you (but not if you initiate.. remember, you are making a conscious decision to lose your bread winner) other wise, at a break up every part of the "marriage property" is given a cash value and equally split. save for sentimental items ofc.

Should alimony be eliminated?

it needs to be re worked. as i said before, a person may not even qualify for it, but if they do it shouldnt be something they can live off of. they recipient should be expected to actively find a job, support themselves and if necessary get in school. thus, i think it should be limited to 2-4 years, and at most the cost for an average apartment and utilities.

now, this has alot of possibilities and each one could end differently. if a billionaire marries some one making 60k a year, the 60k does not deserve a cent after divorce. they can support themselves. if 60k agrees to kill their carreer to stay at home, then they deserve soemthing, because they lost their career.

i agree for the most part.. if it can be proven they are a hazard for the kids, they should not get custody. it should be a current hazard though, not a felony drug charge from 20 years ago or something else unrelated..
