Since following this thread, it's become so much more obvious to me about the double standards surrounding men and women. And it pisses me off. So I find myself speaking up when I see shit because it just doesn't sit right.

A patient had come in yesterday due to "falling and breaking a front tooth." One of the other admin ladies tried to joke with him asking him who punched him and he got SUPER uncomfortable and tried to laugh it off. Girlfriend with him not laughing at all, just being a bristling porcupine.

Back in the op chair, he admitted that his girlfriend threw an Xbox controller at him and that's how his tooth really got broke.

As the admin lady tells me this today, she's chuckling a little. I'm immediately up in arms because you have to really put some force into a throw to break a tooth upon connection. I ask her if this is something we need to get involved in, is this a potential domestic abuse situation, etc etc. And she just brushes me off.

So I sit there thinking... If this was a women and she came in with a broken tooth because her boyfriend/husband chucked a game controller at her face.... It would be a completely different story.

And now I'm mad that I don't know how one handles a potential domestic abuse situation where the man is the victim. We get preached at everything to watch for and what to do when women are the ones being abused, but not the men. And it's frustrating because is it my business? But again, if it was a women coming in... We wouldn't hesitate to make it our business.
