Ernest Belfort Bax (born 23 July 1854 – died 26 November 1926) The first Men's rights activist. Bax advocated for the social and legal rights of men which he saw as lacking in comparison to women. Bax objected to an English law at the time entitled "the Married Women’s Property Act", the act protected the property of a wife from being sold by her husband, while notwithstanding this, the husband was liable for his wife’s debts and torts, and was obliged, moreover, to maintain her and pay all her expenses.
