This is just a trivial example but I'll mention it anyway. I went into a shop to buy some bed sheets today. I was hot and tired. I arrived a few minutes before my wife. I was looking at the display and a middle aged woman came to serve me. She asked if she could assist me. I replied that there was something I was confused about Her: 'how typical for a male to be confused.'

I imagine I am supposed to laugh at this sexist insult but all I am thinking is imagine if the roles were reversed and a male retailer said such a thing to a female customer.
