:( I'm sorry. Personally i find those comics kind of beautiful, the way they humanize Ash, the way he keeps writing to his dad, how the boys love for his father can not be diminished by whatever circumstance has separated them.
Before encountering those comics, the only theory i had herd about Ash's dad was that he was dead. Sometimes that's all there is to it other times he died in the nuclear war that irradiated Ash's world and created the pokemon.
so yeah, that probably didn't help.

don’t know what “Hoenn” is is but I assume this is from that newest pokemon game? I’ve played enough of them to know that the dad is always awol it seems

Not the newest, it's generation 3: Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald. Hoenn was the main region for the Game Boy Advance games.
