Fight new forms of violence against women

MEPs call on the Commission to propose new laws containing binding measures to protect women from violence and want all member states to ratify the Istanbul Convention as soon as possible. They say special attention must be paid to new forms of violence against women and girls such as cyber-harassment, cyber-stalking and cyber-bullying. Furthermore, feminisation of poverty might lead to an increase in female trafficking, sexual exploitation and forced prostitution and member states should therefore find ways to discourage demand and establish programmes to exit from prostitution, says the text.

Good grief.

On the internet there is no gender, unless you want advantages based on your personal qualities and showcase yourself to the world, which is your own choice. Your own responsibility. I think there is a real divide between the people who have joined the internet before the social media phenomenon and after. Those who joined in the 80s, 90s and early 00s understand that the internet has freedom and that you can develop your own anonymous internet persona. Your own personality does not have to represent your internet persona. But the new generations don't understand this, the first thing they do is join Facebook and take everything personal. They think being on the internet means they have to portray their real life selves and that everything done or said is directed at them as a person.

It's the price of freedom and anonymity and that is pretty damn well worth it. That is said by someone who has been relentlessly bullied for years in the real world which almost drove me to suicide. The freedom and protection of anonymity on the internet is one of the things that helped me recover and helped me connect to other humans again in a safe environment. The beauty of the internet is that it's as safe and personal as you want it to be. Exactly because of that I generally stay away from websites such as Facebook. I choose not to be bullied online and that is a choice you can make.

Calls on the Member States, and especially media regulators, to consider the place accorded – in both quantitative and qualitative terms – to women and to promote a balanced, non-stereotyped image of women, in a way that is respectful of women’s dignity, their diverse roles and their identity, and to ensure that commercial audiovisual media do not contain any sex discrimination or humiliating depictions of women

The EU is nothing more than an aristocracy fueled by mutual monetary benefits between national government members and EU members. As a close friend of someone working for the EU I have first hand seen the amount of nepotism and avarice that goes on behind the screens. It's a complete gold rush of money grabbing, pushing personal ideologies and shady business. It's not just the gender agenda, but there are far more economic troubles caused by the EU that bring countries like Greece into irrecoverable poverty.
