Make it easier to identify potential rapists.

If you're scared of every man you encounter as a potential rapist, you've just destroyed your ability to actually foresee a potential rape. Security by obscurity, you're going to fail to acknowledge actual rapists because you've lumped them in with the much larger group of men who can't fathom committing rape. Needle in a haystack as the saying goes.

Now, imagine you were a rapist for a second. You would want women to fear all men, because that means it's less likely you'll actually be caught yourself. Again, security by obscurity.

Know who's most likely to rape you if you're a woman? A stepfather, an uncle, a family friend, a friend of a friend, someone who you moderately trust. At least this is what all empirical evidence tells us. The dark stranger in the alley does happen, but it's rare.

I think it's interesting that the prevalence of rapists amongst the population is similar to the prevalence of sociopaths. I would love to see some data on the correlations between the two groups. It makes sense to me that many rapists would be sociopaths, or that many sociopaths would be capable of committing rape.

The sad reality is that rapists are criminals, and changing laws or social norms isn't going to change their behavior.
