As we know, International Women s Day has just come and gone. As usual there were the massive campaigns, commercials etc in support of it. And yes their issues do matter. But compare this to the customary silence we get on International Men's Day. Not very helpful. Anyhow, rather than just getting angry at the silence, I figure it s time we made a change.
In preparation for International Men s Day this Nov, we should be ready to promote men s issues at our workplaces, streets and homes. From Paternity Fraud to False Accusations. From Homelessness to Suicide. Let s remind the world that these issues do affect men and yes they do matter. But to have an impact we need a plan.
Pick an issue you think is most important (in my case, male suicide and prostate cancer are some good examples). And be ready to promote at work home or your neighbourhood. But stay focussed on the issue itself, rather than demanding justice on all our issues straight out. Your employer, neighbours and friends most likely won't want to hear about men s rights: but an issue like for example suicide in itself, is something they can't deny. So start with the issue and go from there.
If everyone does their part, we can raise awareness, and get our fellow men the support and respect they deserve. It won't be easy but we should not stay silent.
Let this Nov 19th be our day.
