I wrote this shortly after I got some very sad news about my grandmother, who passed away recently. I was very close to her and that loss helped me realize how little experience I have with mourning. It also made me feel as though being a man made the process of mourning inherently more difficult. Maybe that's just me being melodramatic, but I sincerely felt as though there were feelings I had that I just never learned to deal with, as a man.

I've hope to start a larger discussion here and in other subs. Does being a man make the grieving process harder when you've suffered a terrible loss? Does anyone have any experience with that? There are a lot of things I'm learning about grief and loss. I'm sure I'll learn more as life goes on, but I thought I'd share my sentiments.

As always, I welcome any further insights others might have.

Maybe you are a little hard on yourself. Maybe it is true that you find it difficult to cry, but that does not show that it would be better if you did. If you have an emotional burden, tears may not be for everyone.

you really seem to have as good a handle on it as anyone could be expected to, loss is very hard. But you wrote this beautiful piece on it, and i think if you re read it in a few years you will be able to answer some of your own questions in ways that none of us here could do anyway.

thank you for sharing it and I am sorry for your loss.

No one ever told me men don't cry or any of that. I think it is propoganda. I cry when ever I want. However I am in control. I control my emotions, they do not control me. That is part of being evolved.

Sorry for your loss.

Men are often being told not to cry. But In some countries like Italy it is very common for men to cry even in public. So, I also disagree with the feminist explanation of men expressing emotions.

This is only the second piece I have seen from the writer and I love it.

so idk. It's a glimpse of life, presented fairly enough that I feel like I could see it for myself in some small way, like it was not pressed to tightly through filter of one mans particular life.

at the same time, its an intimate glance, shared with us - not related to us, shown, not told.

what else is there to say? read it.
