There has been a loss of true masculinity in our society. Men these days try to overcompensate by growing beards and acting macho. But that’s not what a real man is. A real man is strong and assertive but he is also kind and affectionate. This modern overcompensation is what I refer to as toxic masculinity. A lot of the modern men who think they’re acting so manly are actually acting very boyish. So what you’re seeing now is men roleplaying as their twisted view of a man. For example; I grew up with my great grandparents and great great grandparents. They were all born from the late 1800s to the mid 1930s. I don’t see many men these days like them. They were so balanced. They never felt that they needed to prove their manhood by growing beards or using men’s soaps. They looked out for men in their community and never expected anything in return. They didn’t treat women like commodities. Most men I see these days are a complete inversion of my great grandfathers and great great grandfathers. Deep down these men are insecure and not comfortable with themselves. They’re not genuine. They’re putting on an act. We have to return to true masculinity. Our consumeristic culture encourages toxic masculinity.
