Absolutely it's weird. It's often called "arrest the man first", officially initial aggressor laws, where police arrest the man, and never believe the woman was the aggressor. There was survey I can't link on my phone something like 60% of men who called to report being abuse were arrested or threatened with arrest, and most domestic shelters referred them to programs for batterers (that is to learn to stop being abusive). On a further note it's supported by Duluth model where claiming to be a victim, is a form of abuse, but only if a man does it.

I think you're better off fleeing and if you can't, trying to keep them aggressing you, e.g. holding their arms w/out making marks (Ugh) or bear hugging them if possible. Lock yourself in a room, etc.

It's a sad, sad position to say that to wait until they make marks on you first, get away clean then call the police. All in all, don't call the police. Watch a few hours of COPS (Domestic edition if you can filter) in the U.S., and other shows.

The movement hasn't quite come along as far as some of us would like yet and there are too many male wife/gf batterers out there still.

I'm talking out of my ass but this is how I still think after 40+ years and I've taking a beating more than twice. Police won't/can't give you a fair shake, unfortunately, except for cut and dry video evidence maybe.
