Turns out that the vast majority of those stories of men drugging and raping women are misleading.

Who'd 'a thunk it?

Surely this has been known for some time? I recall reading a report on medical testing of people who claimed to have been drugged and raped on a night out, with the results not showing any drugs other than alcohol in almost all of the cases. This must have been at five years ago at least.

[–]xNOM 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Drink spiking is an hysteria. It's always someone else's fault.

[–]mgtowolf 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah, but there were no lifetime movies or after school specials made about that though lol. It's still a widely believed myth, with PSA about guarding your drink like a hawk, because of all the evil mens just waiting for an opportunity to use their pocket full of expensive date rape drugs lurking about.

[–]wutc4 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Exactly.

[–]wutc4 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Tell the mangina/woman spamming me below. He/she/it reckons that the research shows otherwise.

[–]mgtowolf 7 points8 points9 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes, not being able to remember WTF you did, is not the same as being passed out or drugged. It's retarded how many women I have heard say they think they might have been drugged because they can't remember how they got where they woke up all hungover. The beerbong, kegstand, trying to go shot for shot or other drinking games surely couldn't have done it?

Here are some other links for women mistaking excessive alcohol consumption with being drugged. This is not to say it doesn't happen, but that in most cases where it's reported it hasn't.

What gets to me about this is the entitlement of these women. I've blacked out from excessive drinking, never once did it cross my mind that the fault was anyone else's but mine. I decided I didn't like it and I changed my drinking habits to reduce the risks of it happening again.

[–]Maito_Guy 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The relevant study is behind a pay wall, I could only read the abstract.

[–]henrymerrilees -4 points-3 points-2 points 7 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

There is a reason why you cited a blog and not the research, because the research disagrees with you.

[–]wutc5 points 7 years ago* [recovered] (16 children) | Copy Link

The research is cited on the page. But I see you're either a mangina or a woman, so I don't expect you to read it.

[+]henrymerrilees -11 points-10 points-9 points 7 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

How on earth do you think I know that it disagrees with you?

If you weren’t either an incel or woman hater, maybe you would have realized that I knew because I already read the cited research.

[–]wutc7 points 7 years ago* [recovered] (14 children) | Copy Link

Come on then, give it your best shot. I've cited an article and you've simply made a claim you've yet to prove.

Cite the passages in the research that prove your point.

[+]henrymerrilees -6 points-5 points-4 points 7 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

  1. The blog, and subsequently you, failed to meet any reasonable burden of proof.

  2. How can I cite something that neither paper even covered? Nowhere did either research analysis/paper mention that women falsely allege date rape. Nowhere.

Nice try though.

[–]wutc7 points 7 years ago* [recovered] (12 children) | Copy Link

LOL. So you haven't actually got anything. Not even a quote from either paper you've supposedly read that is able to support your initial claim that "the research disagrees with you". What a surprise.

And no, of course women never falsely allege date rape.

Go and troll someone else, woman.

[–]henrymerrilees -5 points-4 points-3 points 7 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

Find a single quote from the research paper claiming that “the vast majority” of date rape claims are false. One. A single quote. Just one.

Or keep doing a great job convincing me that you are a woman-hating incel.

[–]Pratham25 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago* (10 children) | Copy Link

What researchers have found is that almost all women who are claiming to have been raped while “unconscious” or “roofied” were not raped. They had fully consenting sex, but, simply don’t remember the sex or the fact that they were participating in it, with consent, because of their alcoholic induced blackout (alcoholic amnesia).

Maybe read the article next time.

[–]henrymerrilees 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Quote the study bud.

[–]henrymerrilees -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

“From the research paper” means not the blog post. Are you really that allergic to actual facts and knowledge that you cannot click a link?

Nice try.

Alcohol primarily interferes with the ability to form new long–term memories, leaving intact previously established long–term memories and the ability to keep new information active in memory for brief periods. As the amount of alcohol consumed increases, so does the magnitude of the memory impairments. Alcohol, particularly if consumed rapidly, can produce partial (i.e., fragmentary) or complete (i.e., en bloc) blackouts, which are periods of memory loss for events that transpired while a person was drinking. Blackouts are much more common among social drinkers — including college drinkers — than was previously assumed, and have been found to encompass events ranging from conversations to intercourse. … Alcohol–Induced Blackouts Blackouts represent episodes of amnesia, during which subjects are capable of participating even in salient, emotionally charged events — as well as more mundane events — that they later cannot remember (Goodwin 1995). “What happened? Alcohol, Memory Blackout, and the Brain,” National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, https://pubs.niaaa.nih.gov/publications/arh27-2/186-196.htm

Also

Drug-facilitated sexual assault [DFSA] is a culturally embedded crime fear, it has prompted the creation and distribution of ‘risk products’, and there seems to be widespread acceptance that it is a prevalent form of ‘date rape’. Yet, routinized DFSA is improbable as a widespread crime: it involves a stranger extracting an individual from her social group unnoticed, administering a substance undetected, precisely controlling drug effects, and reliably erasing memory of the experience. Indeed, the conclusions of scientific and police investigation suggest that DFSA is in fact a very limited threat. A research-based consensus has found little evidence of drink-spiking with drugs among those who suspect that it facilitated their own sexual assault; alcohol is the substance most commonly detected in the blood and urine samples of women who claim to have been victims of DFSA. “EMBODYING UNCERTAINTY?: “Understanding Heightened Risk Perception of Drink ‘Spiking’,” BRIT. J. CRIMINOL. (2009) 49, 848–862

Seriously. Read the article and the quotes it cites directly from the research papers.

[–]henrymerrilees0 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Hahaha, you had to cite three paragraphs because you thought I wouldn’t notice that not a single word in either paper supports the claim that the vast majority of date rape claims are false.

[–]Pratham251 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

A research-based consensus has found little evidence of drink-spiking with drugs among those who suspect that it facilitated their own sexual assault; alcohol is the substance most commonly detected in the blood and urine samples of women who claim to have been victims of DFSA.

If you look at this thing called a "thesaurus", you will find that this sentence means the same thing. Now if you want the research paper to have the exact sentence "The vast majority of date rape claims are false", then you are an idiot and I challenge you to first find a research paper that has the exact sentence "The vast majority of date rape claims are true".

[–]henrymerrilees1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Nowhere in that section does it mean anything near what was claimed. The only thing that the study concludes is that alcohol has more to do with people STILL BEING ASSAULTED than people think.

Wow, some people who were taken advantage of guessed the drug incorrectly, wow, let’s all shame them for using the best intuition they could after being raped or assaulted. Supreme logic you have going there. Still does not back a claim that date rape allegations are false, if you could read, but you are doing a great job convincing me otherwise.

[–]Pratham251 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Yes, and the fact that alcohol is present connects back to the first part of the article and the first study (you would know this if you had actually read the article): The conclusion is that the majority of women are not being drugged but instead have consensual sex and then don't remember the consent because they were, in fact, blackout drunk.

[–]henrymerrilees0 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Haha, the ship of Theseus but somehow still non-sequitur conclusion that neither research paper got anywhere close to advocating? You really have lost it.

[–]Pratham251 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Look. All you have done till now is say "ShOw mE tHe reSeArCh pApEr". You have not given a single article, research paper or even a single sentence from a paper to prove your point. And you still refuse to comprehend the basic English in my replies. So far you are losing this argument.

[–]henrymerrilees0 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Why would I cite a research paper or “article” (because apparently blogs count now) to demonstrate to you that your research paper absolutely in no way backs your claim? That is absolutely absurd and how you do not recognize that is beyond me.

Funnily enough, I have never before been told that I have difficulty comprehending English, which would indicate to me that I am not the one with communication difficulties. Sorry, not sorry.
