Actually, they're more dominant. Classical male breadwinners had their "dominance" undercut by socially and politically policed obligations to support a wife and children (and often, extended family).

If we're defining "breadwinner" in terms of the societal pressures that contextualize it, I agree with the conclusion, women are not and cannot be breadwinners. "Breadwinner" implies, not only that one is the major source of financial provision for dependents, but that one is obligated to fulfill that role. Women do not face societal disdain for failing to take on these obligations, much less for failing to take on the bulk of it. To be a "breadwinner", one has to be socially constrained as the primary source of financial provision. Women can't be breadwinners; only rich.

You know... IF we're defining breadwinner that way.
