This is disgusting

A few days ago, Zoe Quinn accused Alec Holowka, one of the devs of Night in the Woods, of being abusive towards her. And instead of going to a court of law, he got punished in the court of public opinion. His co-workers? Fired him. Pulled the rug out from under his feet. His passion for games? Probably dead since nobody's going to want to hire him anymore. And the man himself? He was just stated to have "passed away," with the timing and wording implying suicide.

I'm fucking done with this year. I don't care if he was guilty or innocent, the fact that he was driven into taking his own life thanks to questionable allegations is disgusting. People didn't even wait for undeniable evidence aside from word-of-mouth, they just dogpiled onto hating him for the sake of having the supposed moral high ground. And now a man is dead because of that. But are people going to give a shit? No. Some people are even dancing over his grave. And besides that, the same thing is going to happen over and over. Allegation, mob, ruined career. Allegation, mob, ruined career. No justice, no criminal case, just blind hatred for the sake of it. I hate it. It's sickening, it's tragic, and it's wrong, but it'll keep going on because humans are petty little shits who enjoy tearing into each other. I'm not immune from it, you aren't immune from it, nobody is. It shouldn't keep happening, but it does, and it honestly makes me want to just give up on humanity.

EDIT: Just for clarification, I am not defending Alec. After what came out in the summer backer update on NitW's Kickstarter, I'm willing to say that he did indeed have destructive tendencies. Still, that doesn't excuse the form of "mob justice" that was used against him in his final days. He should've been taken to a real court.
