Crosspost "I’m justified in being scared of men and shouldn’t be shamed for sexism when it comes to something like this" from /r/offmychest:

I get scared or nervous when I see a big group of men, when I have to walk past them, when a random man comes up to me or is walking behind me etc etc and I feel justified in crossing the road, calling someone just to feel safe, carrying something like an umbrella solely in case I need to defend myself and just generally avoiding groups of men in public. I realise this is sexist (I’m only scared because they are men) but I feel justified in being discriminatory in these situations. I’ve had those experiences that many women have like being catcalled, followed, jeered or shouted at by big groups of men and I don’t feel like I have to justify my fear. In the past week I’ve been followed down a dark road, had three drunk men sit down next to me on the train and try hit on me and had a some weirdo start shouting at me and another girl on the tube because we had our earphones in and we’re “ignoring” him.
