The framing of cultural issues surrounding male behaviour as "Toxic masculinity" is just inherently incendiary and completely one-sided, you will never hear anyone talk about toxic femininity, even though the exact same logic could apply. Most men would agree that men should be able to express emotions, that isn't what anyone has a problem with. People have a problem with framing of the arguments, they are rarely ever about building men up, and virtually always portraying men as having a problem with them by virtue of being men. Contrast that with ads about empowerment of women and they are the complete opposite.

In most cases it could be argued that these problems aren't even being primarily perpetuated by men.

You only have to go to menslib or look at people's responses to Gillette ad to see why some men don't like the idea. Didn't like a company saying that most men aren't good enough? You're fragile, you're weak, you're easily offended, you don't like change. None of these people will even consider your perspective as a man. They perpetuate the exact behaviour they claim they want to fix. I've never had the sense when talking about toxic masculinity with those that believe in it that it comes from a place of genuine empathy.

Feminists pay great attention to the subtleties of words. Thus, they have insisted on "fireman" being changed to "firefighter" and so on.

So what are we to make of the sexist insults invented and happily used by feminists? "Mansplaining", "manspreading", "patriarchy" and a host of other terms are gleefully and knowingly used as gendered slurs.

The term "toxic masculinity" is basically hate speech. Despite the objections that it is offensive to men, feminists insist on using it.

Until that is seriously addressed, there will be no movement on this issue.

I think the frustrating part is that many times emotion is showed from a man it doesn't bring him any benefit and a lot of the time gets mistaken for weakness by women subconsciously. I've witnessed friends of mine get tossed to the side of the road after having a fallout with work or getting a little emotional by their SO. It's really unfortunate but I don't think women do it consciously. It's just nature and people need to educate themselves on emotions, attraction, and just natural reproduction tendencies. Once you understand the true nature of masculine and feminine energy it opens doors to a deeper communication and connection. Just my two cents.

Toxic masculinity is doublespeak. The Stalinist practice of saying something means one thing when in fact it means something else. The term toxic masculinity is definitely being used to generally attack masculinity.

I think a lot more would get done if we just change the name. Calling it toxic masculinity and not just toxic Behavior implies that men are the problem and it discredits the contributions that women make to this toxic Behavior. Especially when people deny that such a thing as toxic femininity exists. As a teenager I had a girlfriend demand that I kick someone's ass for insulting her. How is this not an example of toxic femininity that directly contributes to toxic masculinity? I feel a lot more would get done if both sides stoped literally naming their problems after the other side (patriarchy, toxic masculinity, feminazi, etc.) And addressed the issue from a society standpoint and not a gendered one.

The problem is that the modern feminist movement considers all masculinity to be toxic. They attack the very idea of being masculine and hide behind a nonsense phrase.

There a shitty things SOME men do and there are shitty things SOME women do. We need to look at these behaviors in the context of the individual and not attack an entire gender based on stereotypes.

I could just as easily say that women need to address toxic femininity. Things like parental alienation and false accusations. These are things SOME women do and I am not going to condemn an entire gender with a sexist phrase.

So please consider how a phrase like this is actually being use and not just what it means to you. It is not being used to attack only the bad men in society, it is also being used to harm young boys and men for even the good parts of masculinity.

The argument always seems to be "we're not attacking masculinity, just the toxic aspects of outdated gender roles", which is a safe position to take but when put in practice, supposedly toxic elements of masculinity are the only targets we see come under fire, thus implying an inherent moral deficiency in one gender and corresponding moral superiority of the other. This rather blatant implication flies directly in the face of the much safer stated justification for all this. It's a textbook example of the motte-and-bailey fallacy.

Edit: Nevertheless, I welcome discussion with open minded feminists. It's about the only way toward fixing this problem.
