Just an overview.

I've volunteered as a tutor for a number of years now. I recently moved and started tutoring again at a local community center after work a couple of times a week. It was for adult continuing education. Trying to get their high school degree after being out of the system for a number of years. Of course many came from pretty messed up backgrounds. Bad families, but decisions of their own. Substance abuse and mental illness of varying degrees.

This place had all the LGBwhatever positive posters up you might expect.

I started tutoring one young woman. Butch haircut. Masculine clothes. After a few weeks she starts making a point of how she's non-binary. No reason for it to come up in conversation at all but you can tell it's a real thing with her.

I get a nasty vibe from her. She doesn't like men. In your gut you know she can't be trusted. And you can sense she likes the power and control being LBGwhatever gives you these days.

And all it would is one accusation and I'd be ruined. My job, my career. And it's clear the center would throw you under the bus. Not being a real teacher in a teacher's union you have no protection whatsoever.

That week I gave an empty reason on why I couldn't tutor anymore and stopped.

Don't take the chance, guys. It's not worth it.
