The wage gap argument came up recently with an entitled lady I work with. She went on about how women get 70% of what men take home and that women could do any job that a man could do. I agreed with her sentiment and stated that when it comes to professional activities such as Law, Business, PR, Communications, Sales and related office based jobs where brains matter more than braun, women are competitive.

I then proceeded to ask her about the basics of life.

Who builds houses? Who installs and services a houses plumbing? Who installs and services a houses electricity? Who works on your car when it's broken down? Who made the roads you'll drive on when your car is fixed? Who drives the tanker ships all the way from Middle East to bring oil which will fuel your car? Who drives the Tractor Trailer supplying our stores with food and goods? Who works the dangerous jobs?

I then googled workplace deaths on my iPhone and found out that according the the US Census, men account for 92% of workplace deaths.

This was shocking news to us both.

I think she was a bit overwhelmed but I'm pretty sure it sank in. I'll ask her, "how are the roads today" or "don't you love indoor plumbing" to a chuckle rather than a grimace.

A small victory for common sense.
