Sorry if this isn't exactly a men's rights issue, but I see so much talk here about protecting yourself from divorce but I never see any discussion of how to protect your assets from probate.

This is for the fathers out there or with anyone that plans to pass down an inheritance. My question is have you even heard of probate? Are you taking measures to protect your assets from it?

Probate is when you die and anyone that you owe money to will try to get that money from your estate before your heirs can get it. So if you own stock or a 401k your family might not get that money after you die.

You also can't be sure that you won't owe any money when you die. You could end up in a nursing home and after you die the nursing home will claim you owe them money and try to take your house and assets.

Those of you so concerned about protecting yourself wealth should look into estate management. Because divorce isn't the only thing you need to worry about.

I can't advise you on these matters but I suggest you take some time to figure out how to protect your wealth after you die. Look into estate planning. I'm personally putting money into a custodial account for my son. Because legally that's his money and nobody can take his money because I owe them money. I also plan on liquidating all the cash and assets I have before I die and buying gold with the money. That way my family can just go into my safe and get it after I die without any probate court trying to take it first. I also heard another way is to set up a trust fund. I'm looking into that now but I seems very complicated.
