The concept of the friend-zone is in large part perpetuated by men’s inability to accept platonic friendships with women. Media often depicts women as a prize to win over, and that myth has made many men think of all their relationships with women through this lens. Instead of seeing a woman being friendly towards them as what it is, they feel as though it’s a sign that they need to win her over. This often leads to unnecessary heartbreak and anguish for said man, as they become infatuated with a woman who really just wants to be friends.
