I think that it has to do with gender because women have mythologized "male privilege". This woman expected an easier time being treated like a man and instead got the ACTUAL treatment. Turns out there's more male responsibility than privilege.

If you're not a radfem then gendering that behavior definitely looks weird, but most of us here have been dealing with the hard core college fems that like to act as if white/male privilege is the ticket to an easy life. I'm reminded of a black women that tweeted something like "I'm not gonna give you nothing, you fumbled that privilege" in reference to a white homeless man.

Yes that is true but the issue being addressed is that if you took your exact statement but replaced teen with woman and adult with man it becomes even more accurate.

Once I had to go to the electricity company to pay a bill because it was less than 5 dollars and the online system for the city didn't allow online payments less than that. It was the remainder of a bill from when I lived in a different apartment in Philly.
When I went there, I saw the type of person who regularly has to go. It's people who are so destitute they can't even have a checking account. Like they don't have direct deposit so they get charged fees for it every month and couldn't afford those fees. Or they don't have a stable job and just do work occasionally for cash. It was awfully depressing.

If you bounce a check, or use a bad card more than once they make you pay in person, in cash. You basically have to be way down on your luck, or just not good for anything. But it is an option for anybody, so I am guessing Dad wasnt actually neglecting his bills.

Implies that the father was paying her bills but not the sons.
She asked to be treated equally, I guess assuming that she would get some perceived benefit the brother had (treated like an adult, input on family decisions etc), but it back fired because he then stopped paying her bills the same as the sons.

years ago i noticed that my wife and i were still paying for my daughters cell phone. when asked why my wife told me it wasn't unusual to continue when your child was in college...except she was 29 and had graduated 5 years previously...she had to get her own phone.
