This happens all the time on public transportation. Women are hands down the most entitled travelers on buses and trains. They constantly use their various bags as seat-holders. Typically, though, they sit in the aisle seat and place the bag by the window. This is because people are less likely to ask a person to move over than they are to ask them to move their stuff. Women know it and use it.

Fun fact: Most people on the bus really are too sissy to ask people to move their shit. I see people choosing to stand over politely asking someone to move over daily. It's so bad that I've picked up the habit of offering my seat to the standing person, then walking over to the seat-hogger and asking them to move. I despise the spineless bitches who can't stand up for themselves, but I hate the entitled assholes who take advantage even more.
