I too am looking for a coach, mentor, or ally to help with office politics and navigating bureaucracy. Looking for someone who excels at the red pill workplace!

If you are talented and your higher ups see that. Simply approach someone 2 levels up and ask them if they would mind giving you some pointers (make sure that you feel comfortable with the person and at least know them a little).

I did that with the CEO of my company. On a company party I had some brief one on one time with him and he asked me about my future career moves (I am only 28 and he is 55). I told him that I am interested in taking on more responsibility and asked him how he first climbed the ranks (that really gets people talking, people love to talk about themselves, especially if they can show off how they have been promoted over the years). I asked him if he just "knew" what he had to do or if it was just trial and error and he said that the guy who promoted him gave him some direction. I then asked if he would be willing to do the same for younger colleagues. At that point he thinks about his mentor and how he affected him and will be able to see himself as a mentor (a mental promotion) for a younger colleague looking up to him.

He agreed and we've been meeting once a month for 2h in his office to discuss various topics. He gives me books to read and we discuss them afterwards.
