Well, you made a promise. It's up to you whether your honor means something to you. To you, not to her, not to other guys, to you. Can you live with yourself knowing you made a promise and broke it?

Don't concern yourself with her feelings on the matter. If you decide to break your promise, trust me, she'll be fine. Oh, she'll be upset, and you might lose your shot at ever sleeping with her, but she'll survive, she'll move on. Both women and men can do so, do so often, and they sleep at night just fine.

On the other hand, you promised to visit, not to sleep with her and commit to her and sacrifice your life for her. Think of it as a vacation where you've got an easy lay option if you want. You can go, have fun, party it up, hang out with a friend, then go home. If you're horny, all you gotta do is not fuck up and you're in, and if not, at least you had a good time regardless.

I'd personally just take the steps now as if you're going: save up money, make sure your car works or you can get a bus ticket, look at hotels or consider staying with your friend on the couch, take off work if you have a job. Then come the day before, either finalize or call it off and enjoy your mini vacation at home.

What you tell her is "already looking at plans, but if something comes up, I'll let you know" and then don't discuss it further.

By the by, saying "i'll try to arrange things" should be triggering her flake alert system, so she's probably already mentally preparing for you not to be there. If you show, yay, fun surprise, have a good time.

You made a promise, if you want to hold frame you should fullfill your promise. Mind you, you shouldn't do this for her, you should do this because you made a promise and you respect yourself. Every unfulfilled promise will take a jab to your self worth.
Since you're not going there for anybody (including her), why not take this opportunity to have some fun? Your outcome independence and honesty will definitely be perceived once you go there. (Outcome independence=you go there just for yourself, you don't care about the rest)

Okay, here's what I see: you don't seem attracted to her and you are looking for a way out of this. Here's the deal: you fell into her frame and made a promise that you weren't sure you could keep. You also broke the text rule (from the sidebar) and used it for chit chat instead of solely arrange plans. That puts her in control yet again. So how are you going to take it back? I can't answer that for you. No one can. You ask yourself, "what do I want?" and go from there. It's about your frame and your impetus. If you want to stay and study, just do it. You work to do what makes you a better version of yourself. Otherwise, this won't be the last time that you get towed along. Be it by a woman, a child, or another man. Also, her "do you promise?" thing is her trying to leverage emotion over you. Next time anyone says that, say "I'll get back to you". Check your calendar, square up when you have your schedule in front of you.

As a man following TRP, you gotta be the one in lead, and you have to portray alpha qualities. Generally, that does indeed mean being a man of your word, and going through with your promises at the very end.

You didn't really make a mistake by saying you will go see her and giving her a future time frame. You don't want to ghost her for too long and then come out of the neck of the woods when she's completely forgotten your face. But you are going out of your if it is 5 hours so you should be ready to bring your A-game on with TRP.

If you don't think you got the balls and intuition to bang her and make her yearn for you when you go see her, then don't go. You aren't going there to be get drafted for her beta buck list, so do decide on what path you choose to go down before you go there and have your plan ready.
