Intro

Whoever is responsible for the dumbed down culture, sickly men, and widespread ignorance of our youth has another thing coming. I know at least one of those individuals, and it’s Benjamin Fucking Bloom. This scumbag was one of the principle authors behind the current brainwashing manuals used in our public schools. I would love to slap this fancy pants “intellectual” upside the face. Using American youth as guinea pigs is straight traitorous behavior.

We have your books, Ben. They’re on fucking Amazon. Some of us can still connect the dots after going through your bullshit “education as psychotherapy” curriculum. We know you consider the traditional family and father figures “authoritarian.” We know you’re an elitist prick who wants to subject everyone to behavioral science from the cradle to the grave. Except yourself, of course. Yes, you get to sit back and think up these insane schemes, forcibly implant your vision of the Good Life, and feel quite smart, don’t you?

This guy talks about making school “one of those collectivities which replace the parental figure and thus modify [children’s] internalized pattern of values.” (31).

And who gets to decide what these values modifications are? I know I personally don’t have time to get a freaking PHD in behavioral science. Bloom writes, “Here is where the philosopher, as well as the behavioral scientist, must find ways of determining what changes are desirable and perhaps what changes are necessary.”

Mmm yes, the behavioral scientists are so wise. So rational, so cultured, so well funded by the government and tax exempt foundations. Any ways, this particular volume I’ve been quoting from is on the “Affective Domain.” The affective domain includes children’s values, behavior, feelings, and anything else not directly related to knowledge/facts (those are part of the “Cognitive Domain”). It is arguably illegal to include this type of education in our public school system, but it has nonetheless seeped into every level of it over the past couple of decades.

Bloom brags, “the affective domain is, in retrospect, a virtual ‘Pandora’s Box’…it is in this ‘box’ that the most influential controls are to be found.” (91) Yes, folks, he’s talking about behavioral controls. Humans have inherent drives that ‘steer’ them to make predictable decisions if you put them under predetermined stimuli. Bloom cites dozens and dozens of studies throughout this book showing how much research has been done on human (and especially adolescent) motivation.

And of course, many of us chuckle: “There goes another internet conspiracy theorist. What a silly guy – none of this applies to me. Ignorance is strength!” You do realize that’s the point of brainwashing, right? You’re supposed to like it.

“So they want kids to learn to get in good habits and show up on time. That’s probably the only behavior modification going on here,” is another thought perhaps going through your mind. Hmmm, well let’s defer to the text to see what kind of repercussions these behavioral controls really have. Bloom writes, “The affective domain contains the forces that determine the nature of an individual’s life and ultimately the life of an entire people.” (91)

But, no everything is just “normal,” right? Rotating around an enclosed building on a bell schedule doesn’t resemble a factory at all, does it? And being arbitrarily divided up by age (education was done by how good you are at the subject for the first half of this country’s history) isn’t a method to separate and control students. No, of course not. This is ‘Murica!

3 Time New York City teacher of the year John Taylor Gatto called Bloom an "academic madman" and took him to town in a series of books. I suggest you look them up online. Gatto also provides invaluable knowledge about the history of our school system and social conditioning in the United States. I understand we're all in our little narcissistic bubbles and it's fun. But there are people who don't consider you conscious and write books about how to steer you towards the country's economic goals. Isn't that something worth researching?

"There's no agenda," you say. "Everything is normal." Really? There aren’t people who study long term trends and then incorporate their forecasts into the schools? Why would that not happen exactly?
