"Technology is destructive only in the hands of people who do not realize that they are one and the same process as the universe."
-Alan Watts
I think most are oblivious to the universe now. In relevance to Watts quote, if the universe was strength and size, we're mostly full grown adults, with an infant mind. Technology, being the use of our physical power... It's like a bunch of full grown adults, punching toddlers.
In my opinion... Given these apps, with access to connect to a much larger audience, we're misusing these tools to; communicate, meet people we wouldn't normally get the chance to get to know, and spread, or receive, knowledge and information... Most are using these tools for; vanity, misinformation, and unprovoked yet aggressive attacks on others self worth just to feed their own ego. Our phones have become a computer, camera, game console, alarm clock, and a form of virtual socializing (I don't like calling it social media because it is more like antisocial media nowadays) all in our pockets. They are theoretical unbelievable achievement in technology and can/should be used to spread amazing and unfathomable knowledge to literally the entire world.
But mostly (key word, mostly)we use them for mindless and egotistic fueled things. Things that leave no real positive impact on the world. Like selfies, collecting followers and "likes" on apps like Snapchat Instagram and only fans. Spreading our "opinions", (not saying are OUR OPINION, rather I'M RIGHT AND YOU'RE STUPID) mostly from politically charged rants of biased misinformation. AND, without the risk of physical pain being inflicted, hiding behind a screen, everyone is a tough guy and use them for just spreading hate and ignorance.
They are handheld lobotomies instead of a tool to gain knowledge or spread positivity.
🤦🏼 (I was attacked on my last comment on dating apps and social media being a used to fuel egos, dissociating our physical lives, causing our idea of reality to become more of a virtual reality. And the way dating apps are almost created for population control.
I also sparked some very fulfilling intelligent conversations, or civil debates. I hope to see more of the latter rather than just unharmonized verbal diarrhea, or attacks on my self worth... But it's Reddit... And I am voicing my opinion about something... It's practically implied. ) Let's see what happens...
What are your thoughts about this quote and it's relevance to the world now? Do you agree with my views and what I said? If you disagree, explain why you think that the majority of the world is using technology for good, and positive reasons.
ARE WE HEADED IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION OF A BETTER FUTURE, OR ARE WE WASTING AWAY UNAWARE OF THE REASONS BECAUSE WE'RE MOSTLY OBSESSED WITH OUR SCREENS? Are we self destroying with technology? Or is technology ready to be in the hands of humanity?
