TL;DR Even Disney recognizes AWALT and Alpha Widows.

The new Disney Pixar Movie Inside Out focuses on the internal thoughts and emotions of a kid growing up, creating "memory marbles" and infusing them with emotions such as Joy, Sadness and Anger.

A sub theme of the movie is showing the emotional processes of the adults in the kid's life, including her mom.

And the mom, is an alpha widow to a "Brazilian Helicopter Pilot" (BHP).

You see her fondly recalling the thought of him, whenever the beta provider husband screws up. BHP is clearly the alpha that got away for her, strong of build and extremely confident in delivering his one line. She actually says, "And we could have had the Brazilian Helicopter Pilot, and instead we chose him (the beta husband)."

Even at the end of the movie in a moment of brief adoration for the beta husband, she signifies that by tossing away the memory of the Alpha, only to run back, and pick it up again, "Just in case".

The Alpha BHP is also revealed to be banging the kids teacher. You know, just in case you didn't realize his role.

Why is this worth mentioning? This is a movie targeted at kids, which gives them a look into the heads of adults, and talks about the role of thoughts, memories and feelings. This is some deep stuff for kids if it connects with them. Disney has been building the expectations and desires of little girls since the first princess movies came out. Many girls are still looking for Prince Charming.

In the middle of this movie (and portrayed as perfectly normal and good) is alpha widowing, beta humiliation and the sad part of red pill truths. And it's going to sink in for kids, because there's no suggestion that this is anything less than normal. That little girls should want the Brazilian Helicopter Pilot, even if they settle down with the sad ass financially struggling beta dad.

So... AWALT - even the animated ones we show to our kids.
