A few days ago, there was a redditlog link about Beta's GF wants an open relationship to fuck his best friend. The argument of "bros before hoes" came up, and for the most part, I agree. What I would encourage all of us to explore and think about is "why" and does this unspoken code still hold regarding other situations such as work promotions etc.

My personal viewpoint: Depends what kind of "bro" he is. Fundamentally, we are all in this game called life for ourselves, "looking out for number one" in other words. However, by forming a network of "bros", we as individuals can achieve greater goals at a faster pace, by sacrificing immediate satisfaction for something that will be better in the long run. In the above case, it would be trading the strong chance of getting his dick wet for the continual friendship and whatever benefits that entails.

In other words, "short term pain for long term gain"

The concept of honour comes into the equation but the question(s) to ask regarding any situation is: what are the consequences of taking Action A vs Action B? Will said bro return the favour? (you need as close to a guarantee as possible; wishful thinking gets you nowhere) What benefits will I derive from associating with said bro?

The truth is there is an increasing number of low value people, both male and female, and interacting with these people will yield close to nothing. This comes back to the issue of associating yourself with people of high(er) value than you, at the same time avoiding people who detract from you. Again, my viewpoint is even if they are "lower value" than you, but are willing to begin and continue the development of themselves, help them, with the expectation that they will help you in the future.

I would appreciate further discussion on this issue.
