Everything in moderation. I drink 2 cups a day religiously, and I never drink coffee past 3PM. Start by weaning down a cup a day every few days until you can get into a healthy level.

Like weed & beer, take tolerance breaks from coffee : 1-2 days a week - when you have time off - where you abstain, lowering your tolerance threshold. Also, during vacation etc, try to abstain from a few weeks to a month, once a year. Totally resets your system. Your first cup ( bowl, beer) after that break is like the first time you tried it.

I do like /u/ojos_mudos has said and take tolerance breaks from all of the substances I consume periodically. I cycle between 3 stimulants for work/productivity; Caffiene, Modafinil and nicotine (vaping). I.e. Monday = Caffiene day, Tuesday = Modafinil day, Wednesday = Nicotine day etc.). This way I don't build a tolerance to any and I only need a low dose of each to get me going.

When I spent a year as a Mormon (some 20 years ago now) they have something called the "Word of Wisdom" where it is written you should avoid things like "hot drinks" (coffee, tea) and alcohol.
For that full year I did not use either.
Caffeine Withdrawl
Here is what will happen.
It will take at least a month of headaches before your body fully detoxes and loses it's need for caffeine. Once that process is complete (and it's painful) you will find you have more energy in the morning.
In fact, you will basically wake up and spring out of bed.
Caffeine is like Nicotene in that it first over stimulates some chemical inside you then during withdrawl creates a scarcity. All addictive substances do this.
In a perfect world you use your built in chemicals to experience life and are not dependent on drugs to "simulate" chemical levels.
These days I have a rule:
"No caffeine after noon and no alcohol before noon."
And I'd add my preferred alcohol time is from Noon to Sunset.
Drinking alcohol late into the night just screws up your sleeping.
Something like a Beer Garden or Oktoberfest during the day is the ideal in my opinion. (alcohol)

But what if you want to drink an alcoholic drink containing coffee? Those are amazing. Lol

You will need to invent a Time Machine or develop a worm hole.
Or... you can break your own rules... we're human, we do things like that often.

Sometimes there is a problem, not so much with the coffee itslef, as with the way it's grown, stored & processed.
Molds can grow on coffee beans, and produce both mold toxins (mycotoxins) and trigger allergies if you have mold allergies.
Decaffeinated coffee beans are the worst offender (caffeine is protective against mold infection, it may be one way coffee trees and other plants protect themselves against mold attacks.) This could be one explanaition for why decaffenated coffee tastes so bad compared to regular coffee beans.
Sometimes people have found that switching brands makes things like allergic reactions or getting headaches or feeling vagly shitty go away.
Note though, that going cold turkey from a heavy caffeine addiction will also cause headaches.
More info can be found here:

BTW: the worst offender for mycotoxins is by far peanuts.

I have started drinking nothing but water 25 days ago (I use the Loop Habit Tracker app for android so I can see how my progress is going). I don't think we should drink anything but water because soda and alcohol makes you fat, addicted and lazy, while tea and coffee make you addicted and the benefits just dont work anymore after a few days (if you drink green tea the body becomes used to theanine, if you drink coffee the body becomes used to coffein because the amount of adenosine receptors increases). And btw: If you get your water from the faucet it's cheap as fuck. But you should only do that if it's not 'enriched' with fluoride. Here in germany there is no fluoride in the water. Just a bit of arab cum.

I do not like being dependent either and caffeine doesn't give me a kick like it does with many other folks. I am still tired, I just can't sleep anymore. Thus I switched to decaffeinated coffee. I like the taste of coffee too much to never drink it again.

Stopped for 2-3 months. As I am a victim of ADHS/ADHD it seems that a slight coffee intake is pretty essential to function as a human being :P However, I feel more relaxed and not so wound up when drinking none.

A German resercher Group (Dr feil Group) Collected several Studies to this topic and proffed coffee is good.
Not more than 3-5 Cups a day are good because it: - Protects against alzheimer - Protects against diabetus - is anti-inflammatory

Nutricionist advise here given to me by a friend
Coffee is not for a high carb diet, meaning pasta, rice, sugar, anything related because once the effect is over the impact is big and you either will need more sugar/coffee
Me personally I am on an anabolic diet, which means I take high protein/fat 5 times a week and then 2 days high carb, these 5 days are the ones I can drink coffee (no sugar, no milk, it helps a lot with performance and energy)
If you still want to drink coffee just drink one during the moring, do not drink after 14hs, ONLY mornings

Occasionally I get sick of the taste and switch to liquid caffeine or tea for a while, seen men chug gallons.
Won't kill you, many headaches when they stop cold

Yeah as the others have said, coffee isn't bad for you. In many cases, it's good for you.
I definitely agree on the aspect of being dependent on a substance. But it's not something to worry about.
Usually if I miss my daily cup I feel pretty shitty throughout my day, I think this is the crash I feel when I get home (The caffeine wearing off). I remember I used to get actual headaches which isn't fun (I don't like being dependent on something to the point where I feel physical pain for not using it, either)
I plan on cutting it out when my rest is in check, but for now it's a nice booster. And I like relaxing and having a cup in the morning. At least when it doesn't make me shit myself.
Also, this is more asktrp material.

I'm pretty addicted to coffee and I understand your point about not wanting to be dependent on something. Not sure how to advise you on this, but for me, I plan on drinking it until I'm comfortably kicking ass at everything I do.
Until then, coffee is pushing me forward.

I drink coffee sparingly. I only use it when I don't get enough sleep. So I would say maybe once or twice a month. I remember drinking coffee for about weeks straight and it was good. I felt more energetic and Igot alot more work done. However when the coffee effect finished, I would feel irritable and the headaches were there. You need to make a decision based on whether the pros outweigh the cons. I stopped and now I feel normal. I actually was energetic, all I needed was a good night's rest. Did I need it? No. Do I need it now? Only when necessary. I think a good night's rest will always beat out coffee. But I smoke weed nightly so who am I to judge?

I quit coffee and all caffeine over 6 months ago. I have never felt better. My digestion is still getting over it after being a junkie for years. Caffeine forces your body to push the sleepy feeling out of it. It is fooling the body and will affect sleep. Now if I get even a little caffeine in my body I get jittery and feel over engergized. It is not fun. It is very harmful for the body. It is a politically correct addiction. Like alcohol. Your breath and body stinks. Don't think people cannot smell it. Rots the teeth. Harms the adrenals. I used to drink a large sweet tea a day and an energy drink or two. Since I quit I don't have energy problems. I feel better. If you need coffee to keep you awake, your life is not compatible with what you want to do. People bored with their lives drink coffee. Only losers drink it. It is an addiction that adds up. Think about the health problems it causes. Don't listen to ANYONE here who says it is a good thing to consume. They are simply drug addicts, like alcoholics, meth heads, cigarette smokers and heroin junkies.
People who cannot live without some sort of substances in their body are ignorant boring people and you should stay away from them.
Now when I go to coffee houses and see the addicts I think of what losers they are. Listen to them talk about it. Tell them you quit and see how they act. Seriously. They are junkies.
And as well, think about all the money wasted on that habit, or the money saved...7 bucks a day at jewstarbucks for beans picked and sorted by child slaves in Africa who make pennies whilst jew companies pay no taxes. Seriously. Starbucks pays no taxes. And charge 7 bucks for a cup that costs them pennies.
Only losers are caffeine addicts.

I drink cold brew coffee and it's awesome. No sugar or anything needed. Just pour over ice and dilute as necessary. It's way easier to drink black than hot coffee.
