Here's a quick and easy social experiment that you can try right now. Go to craigslist and compare the frequency of posts in the "Women Seeking Men" section to the "Men Seeking Women" section. What sort of ratio do you see?

For instance, the Sacramento craigslist Women Seeking Men section has about ten posts per day, while the Men Seeking Women section already has fifty posts today. That's a loneliness ratio of ~5, which is essentially consistent across the few regions that I have looked at.

Yes, craigslist is the bottom of the barrel, but I think that this high disparity demonstrates the fact that men do not have a safety net in life when it comes to finding companionship. This goes along with the 20/80 rule.
