lasting Growth can only come from Struggle. Men thrive on struggle and hardship, it's the only way to learn what it means to be a Man. A society of safe coddled men is a society of soft miserable men and confused angry women.

Our brains are hardwired to reward us for our achievements. Winning that fight: dopamine cookie. Killing that sabre toothed tiger: dopamine cake. Taking that city: dopamine bath. Badass Men trained hard, fought, and achieved greatly and were greatly rewarded, thus motivating them to further achievement. That's how all of the modern world came to be. It wasn't easy, but they knew the only way forward was to Embrace the Suck, get after it, and make shit happen.

Those achievements and their modern corollaries, whatever that might be, make men feel ten feet tall; a 10 if you will. Without the hardship, the reward diminishes. Dan Bilzerian was asked what would be a ten for him now, and to paraphrase, he said nothing. He has fucked thousands of the hottest hunnies, climbed the mountains, raced, gambled, and won. The best steak at the best restaurant by the best chef would be a 6 for him. The struggle is all but gone.

Chris Cornell was so numbed to life that he chose to end his. A rockstar on top of the world. They have experienced so much that life loses its flavor. They turn to drugs just to feel something, and eventually even that stops working. There can be no hope without struggle.

Fortunately, there is plenty of struggle for us Men. We can set lofty goals, train our asses off, get after it and make that shit happen. Climb the mountain, learn the instrument, survive alone in the woods, master that martial art, whatever it is kick it in the ass and move to the next challenge. This is an amazing world with nearly endless possiblities if you just get off your ass and go.

Happiness only has any meaning if you Embrace the Suck. Make the struggle your happy place, revel in the knowledge that on the other end of it will be an even more Badass version of You. Nothing worth doing is easy and the greatest glory comes with the greatest hardship.
