“By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail” Benjamin Franklin

“In preparing for battle I have always found that plans are useless, but planning is indispensable” Dwight D Eisenhower

Intro: People working a 9 to 5 job work 40 hours a week. There is 52 weeks in a year, assuming you live to 100, retire by the average US age of 62 and you began working at 18, this means 91,520 hours or 10.44 years of your life will be devoted to work. If this fact frustrates you then you can game plan your goals.

How to Set Goals

  1. Write it down. This makes it real. Take it serious because it's your life and it matters. The unconscious mind will process the fact you're devoting time into a goal and you'll be able to connect the dots easier. Active imagination without writing is mental masturbation.

  2. Establish why it's important. Let's say the goal is to become healthier, list the reasons why. You want to live a long fruitful life, you don't want to look like Quasimodo when you're old, getting laid and other motivators.

  3. List specifics. Instead of saying "I want to lose weight" establish clear objectives that establish how you'll get there. Are you drinking soda? Having too many cheat meals? Not going hard in the gym? Remove obstacles and add segue to your goals.

  4. Dream big. Your passion can be compensated and it is important. The fundamental question that separates successful people vs unsuccessful people is how much am I willing to sacrifice? Once you understand this fact your vision can grow as the obstacles aren't your lack of skills(that comes later), the biggest hurdle is are you willing to truly give it your full total attention?

Potential Pitfalls

The balance of grandiosity and aimlessness is a tightrope. It's crucial however to not neuter yourself by thinking you're not worth it, drifting by not establishing goals, or putting it off. Avoid this trap by looking at the stories of great men. Many who have come from poverty, broken homes, illness, near death and much suffering to still make it.

Avoid being grandiose by giving thanks, understand you're able to make things happen because others have devoted themselves to creating a world for you, and being strong enough to ask for help while helping others.

Conclusion

For goal setting it's essential to write down where you're going, why you want to get there and what practical steps can be taken. Understand you're important and ripe full of opportunity, but also understanding you came to be and are granted luxuries because of the progress of great men and (red pill) women.
