Meh. Under most moral codes in human history you could be punished quite severely for insulting gods, ghosts, ancestors, or some other whatevers. In Athens you could be banished from the city for "threatening democracy" based on a vote -- no charge, no fair trial, just other citizens feeling that way. The whole idea of having any personal rights is quite novel and not that common.

Most moral codes don't tell you to be a liar.

Most moral codes aren't based upon the ego inflation of a specific group or gender at the expense of another.

Most moral codes are not based upon "theoretical indignation."

And besides, as men we're not afraid to violate taboos when it is right to do so.

It's hard to advocate for an entire set of moral codes that will be valid for a significant amount of time.

I think most morals have to be defined by the individual based on the expectations of other people's morals.

Of course the hardest part of that means there must exist some publicly enforced and agreed upon morals to begin with... back to step 1.

I don't really have an answer here, just feel lucky to live in the current time where I am not beheaded for publicly voicing my alternate opinions.

The problem is that feelings are damn easy to fake. If a moral code says punish a person if he made another person feel bad, how to prove that the other person did not actually feel bad, it is just a weapon? And a moral code without punishment would be useless.

So the idea of moral codes is to pick something that is easy to prove, like bodily harm or stolen items, and then forbit it and punish people if the do it.

The protection of feelings belongs to manners. Manners are unwritten rules, based on very generic customs people just need to learn to "get", and they are merely punished by being unpopular in and slowly marginalized from the elite society of ladies and gentlemen - except that thing kinda doesn't exist today.
