(Long time lurker; first post) Friday night I went to the Cleveland Indians game. Giveaway for first 10,000 fans through the gates was an Indians scarf - Didn't care for it, oh well, I'll just pull it through my belt and forget about it. Got to the gates when they opened (two hours before first pitch), got scarf. Went early for the pregame festivities in center field - $1 hot dogs, $2 beers, band playing, other giveaways etc. In the 7th inning, I'm walking through the RF bar area to hit the bathroom. This area attracts the super casual "fans" that basically go to the game just to socialize -- tons of tables that are always full, you can't even see the field from these tables, no one in this area watches the game. If you're at a table, you've likely been there the whole game, because they fill up immediately. Three 7s sitting at a table, one stops me as I'm walking through.
Her: "Can I have your scarf?"
Me: "for free?"
Her: "What do you want for it?"
Me: "Make me an offer"
Her: "$5"
Me: "Sure" (remember, I couldn't care less for it)
Her friend (while resting her arm on my shoulder): "I can't believe you're making her pay for it"
Me: "You can't believe I don't just give stuff away to strangers?"
Her: "I only have a $10, and I'm not paying that much for it."
Me: "Go make change, there are 1,000 cash registers at this place. I'll go to the bathroom while you're doing that."
Her: "Oh come on"
Me: "I'm not giving it away for free. I got here early enough to get one, and I've been carrying it around all day. I'm sure you'll find another sucker to give you one."
Two girls who didn't arrive until game time at the earliest, who probably haven't watched a single pitch (as mentioned, tables fill immediately and you can't see the field), expected a complete stranger to give them something absolutely free, and even refused to get up off their ass to make change, because entitlement. Also worth mentioning that when I walked back through they were gone, and it was only the 7th inning of a close game. In all likelihood, that was an effort to acquire a scarf before leaving the game that they didn't watch. Even better, I would've just given it to her had her friend not made the remake she did (she had a scarf herself, likely suckered for free from some other idiot).
EDIT: Flair was wrong (thanks to the comments!), changed to rant
