Bit of back story. My co-workers at a new job invited me to go line dancing with them after the shift about a week ago. I initially declined because I had plans (I didn't). The true and honest reason is that I didn't feel "ready". I've never been much for dances in HS or large and intimidating social scenes. But I've been trying to improve. I recently entered a very social job and have been getting lots of practice approaching people and sustaining conversation. So I accepted the second invitation.

In the hours before we went out dancing, TRP flashed in the back of my hand. This is a subreddit that I've read half-heartedly; interesting enough to peruse, but a radical enough change in my own life to avoid commitment. It occurred to me though that the particular night was a classic 'RP Arena' scene: a bar (none for me), dancing, and nightlife. As a 19 year old, I didn't think that kind of situation would come for a while. And, oh shit, I bet that 'Red Pill' subreddit has a thing or two to think of before you go party.

The one thing I remembered continuously about reading through this subreddit was the importance of a 'DGAF' attitude. I first starting applying it, in small ways, to my job. If you over analyzed and obsessed with a customer interaction, you were shooting yourself in the foot. But this was a different rodeo. So I told myself, "You're here to have a good time. Whatever happens, happens."

So when my coworkers and I rolled up, we instantly starting dancing. For the first half hour, that's all I really focused on. It was silly because I was completely fucking lost, but we were laughing it up and having a good time. When I wasn't narrowed in on talking to one particular hot girl (and there were many), or I wasn't thinking about myself, I felt so much more free. I didn't need anything to enjoy myself. It was already there.

It came time on the floor to grab a partner and learn a dance together. I looked left and saw a group of girls also standing and glancing around. Stress about approaching a group of girls, alone? You're having a good time. Have it with them! I pointed at a completely random girl and said, "Are you my dancing partner? You're my dancing partner," and grabbed her hand. We had a really fun time, exchanged numbers, and went on our merry ways. I also introduced my more introverted friend and got him a partner too. The girl I went with wasn't the absolute most attractive, and our conversation was a good bit stale after the initial excitement, but that too wasn't a big deal. We were still having a good time.

Throughout the night I chatted up random girls, danced beside them, and even flirted here and there. These are people I'd normally shrink in fucking terror because of how attractive I'd find them. But with a completely fresh perspective of "fun and not results", I didn't care about the approach, or frankly even them. I was just out there to have fun and take anyone along with the ride if they liked.

All said and done, I didn't change my life in one night or get laid like a king. But I felt like I broke the surface on a key RP fundamental - focusing on yourself. When you're having a good time, others will join along for the ride. I think that's a really great lesson, and something I can definitely thank this community for shining light on.
