It still applies to an Alpha who is seeking to keep his LTR happy.

On the other hand, if said potential LTR's main language is gifts, I would consider than an invalidation of her as a potential LTR.

It's solid advice. My parents have used it for 26 years and looking at the solidness of their marriage and my Dads frame I would say that it is a valuable component of a LTR. I think my two biggest languages are acts of service and physical comfort/touch.

A bit of anecdotal evidence:

A good buddy of mine is married and when he was giving me a tour of his new house, I saw the book in their room. That being said, he is in one of the most BP relationships I have ever seen. His wife completely controls the relationship.

The book seems pretty beta to me, kind of like the advice you'd get from "counseling".
