I've found myself slipping with self-improvement lately, not working out as much, not cooking, lots of unread books still and I'm not learning as much I was some years ago which used to be really important to me, since the title I've always gravitated to most is "autodidact". I was eating healthy, working out, staying connected to my pets, friends and family, getting sufficient sleep, and downing Vitamin D3 in larger than recommended quantities, and yet my motivation was slipping and I was starting to get depressed. But depression is good for contemplation, and I came to a new conclusion about what is going on in my life and why.
Say that you are awake for 16 hours in an average day. The guy who is getting the most done that he wants to do has the best grasp of this concept.
Hour 1: The thoughts you think and focus on matter.
Hour 2: The thoughts you think and focus on matter.
Hour 3: The thoughts you think and focus on matter.
Hour 4: The thoughts you think and focus on matter.
Hour 5: The thoughts you think and focus on matter.

This is not The Law of Attraction. This is observable, that what you think to the extent that you can control what you think, and what you focus on in your head, ultimately steers your action, your wellbeing, and your life. And you need to be consistently aware of this to get the most from it.
The capacity of someone to both improve or build themselves, other living things, and the world around them, and the capacity to degrade or destroy themselves, other living things, and the world around them, lies in their thinking, and what they choose to consistently focus on for each hour that they are awake. The greatest contentment and happiness requires disciplined action, but disciplined action always begins with the mind that chooses to be disciplined itself, to control its focus. You can take in negative media, read negative news, and hear the negative opinions of others, but if that negativity becomes louder in your head than what you've done in life, what you want from life, and why you want it, you will act in accordance with that negativity.
And when that negativity has taken over, your physical state will feel different, because your mind will be pulling your body into a negative, antagonistic view of life, or working out, or women, or romantic love, or money, and whatever appears as a present challenge. Anthony Robbins calls this "state", you've lost your positive-leaning physical state, because you've lost your mind. You've temporarily lost your mind to the negative opinions of damaged people in the world. In these circumstances you have to rip your mind back away from the damaged people, its time to fix them, start with yourself.
Frame is the easiest way of dealing with negative people, especially for people without the social skills and emotional resilience to go head to head with other people's negative states. Frame is silent individualism. It is a means of improving negative social situations through silence, it is a means of politely disregarding the negative opinions of men and women and throwing them away into silence. You don't have to focus on anything negative if you don't have the emotional resilience for it, no human being can take endless negativity and not take damage, whether its coming from media, people, or what's in your head, you just have to focus on your survival, your health and the health of others as it relates to your health, and what you want out of life.
All self-improvement in your life will inevitably be the result of your focus. All of the negative circumstances that come into your life will inevitably be a test of your focus. The creation and destruction caused by your own action, in your life, can be traced back to what you were aware of. If you understand that your focus has power, you have no choice to but to believe in yourself, because by focusing on the possible solution to any given problem, or the positives in your life, you inevitably have to believe that you are valuable enough to do that. Its impossible and unhealthy to never focus on or think of negative or dark things, this would be suppression and it would be unhealthy. And everyone can make mistakes or be forgetful, which is also fine. But the best foundation for mental-health and self-improvement is where positive, solution-oriented, and goal-oriented focus takes up most of the time you awake.
Focus is everything.
