Everyone loves the word motivation. Motivation seems to be the holy grail of the ambitious. However, motivation only gets your feet in the door, here’s why.
I’m talking about a word that you hear all the time. Right from earlier in my life when I wanted to get in shape, right until recent times where I have started my own business, motivation is in just about every corner of media you are exposed to if you are after higher goals.
Today I’m going to speak to you about motivation and why it’s really a pointless ‘feeling’ to aim for if you want results.
There are many issues with Motivation
Motivation is unstable. You are not always motivated, whoever you are. We’re all human, some days we are super motivated, others we feel drowned in despair.
This is normal.
If you deny this, who are you trying to fool? But this is okay, it all comes down to the principle of yin and yang. How can you have one without the other?
Motivation comes and goes however it wants. It might not last to the end of the week, end of the day, or even the end of a blog post you just read.
It’s fleeting.
What Exactly Is Motivation?
A reason or reasons for acting or behaving in a particular way.
Did you catch that? A reason. That reason being your current state of mind or external events. Motivation is basically a feeling, one that is dictated by environment.
Because it is such a present feeling the point I’m trying to make is that it cannot be established as a concrete marker of one’s ability to succeed. It is a step in the right direction, whereby other characteristics take over which result in actually taking you towards where you want to go.
Discipline is what is going to give you momentum.
Discipline isn’t a feeling, it is an action. It is an intentional event, made by you as an individual.
A conscious decision whereby you get out of the paradigm of motivation and take the goal you have, into your own hands.
It’s rare and this is why so many people remain stuck in the highs and lows of motivation and laziness, without actually cultivating any type of discipline.
Discipline is the harder option.
Action Is Key
The best thing you can do for anything you want to be good at is to take action. Even if you suck, just fucking start, because when you start, at least you get the ball rolling.
You must take action because then at least you’ve done something and then some shit actually happens.
The time is now, whatever project you have. There is no excuse for not taking action right now. Honestly, even though I want you to read my article, taking action is more important so stop reading, stop proactively procrastinating and get started.
The reason I know this to be the right move is because I have taken action myself.
I have not made a big name for myself in my niche yet. However, what I have done is made the first step and have taken action towards my future goals.
If you have a project or better yet an inner desire to do something, to create something, but you are waiting for the perfect idea, it’s never going to happen. Let me say that again, never.
“Find a sense of urgency in actually doing something, even if it is shit.”
How To Become More Disciplined
The first step is to rid yourself of excuses and ask yourself the question how bad do you want it?
Chance will never work in your favour.
Luck favours those who actually try, this increases the likelihood of ‘chance’ to work in one’s favour.
Aim to fail when you take action you need to get excited about the prospect of failure. It’s this failure that will strengthen your integrity and transmute your discipline into habit.
Simple Steps For Progress
- Rid yourself of excuses
- Create strict routines
- Decide how bad you want it and if it’s worth it
- Invest it in
- Keep going and remain consistent
- Aim to fail to learn to succeed
- Reap the rewards
- You don’t need more inspiration. You don’t need more motivation. * You need more discipline and you need to start now.
