Similar to external standards but so common and formulaic to justify its own post is presenting the opposite value that has been expressed.

Notice if you express an opinion favoring one style or method of living and someone tries to sell you on the opposite. Similarly if you were obviously not going to do something, you may be encouraged with positive or negative conditioning to do it.

The positive conditioning may be attention or approval, while negative may be exemplified with negative name calling like lazy, stubborn or stupid.

Consider when someone challenges your apparent preferences. You may hear "that's a lot of..." Or "don't forget the..." (Insert item you don't want to carry). Or "why do you like..."

Some of these are challenges to your identity which is partially composed of the sum of all your decisions.
