The new Gordon Levitt film Don Jon tells a different message, and shows that the real problem with porn is not that it is scary, but that it is free, convenient, and offers men an escape from the high cost of sex. There is a fascinating subplot in the film, which explores the way that sexuality has been turned into a commodity. Scarlett Johansen’s character uses her sexuality deliberately and blatantly to manipulate Jon’s character into complying with her wishes of how and who he is supposed to be. Commercials shown in the film depict how men are manipulated by sexual images and themes in advertising.

Scarlett’s character flies into a rage when she finds out that Jon has continued to watch pornography, ostensibly because she finds out he lied to her. But, is she really angry about the lie, or is she angry because Jon’s easy access to porn takes away some of her power?

At one point in the film, Jon actually says that "real" sex is less satisfying than porn and masturbation, because during sex with a woman, “it’s on me to do all the work.” But, during porn, Jon can sit back, watch for free, “lose himself” in the fantasy of porn, and not have to work. He can be selfish with his sexuality. Because porn is free, and convenient, Don Jon can relax and focus on himself, exploring his fantasies, rather than maintaining focus on the needs of his partner. And that is frightening to many.

A young, attractive woman shooting porn movies is not that different from the likes of a talented, athletic 20 year old playing professional basketball or baseball while he has the physical prowess.

After a certain point when skills and the body diminish, that ability goes and they can either retire, or find another realm of work.

It is strange how when a talented youngster like Mike Trout plays baseball, most men are able to admire those skills that make him unique and appreciate it. But when an equally talented and beautiful woman is in porn, for most women, she's shaming her sex, engaging in rape (thank you Andrea Dworkin!), etc, etc. Or just removing their power.

The shaming comes from both genders and rightly so since we're talking about glorified prostitutes.

way to deny the whole point of the source article

the idea is that the shaming comes from women, read it again, because porn/prostitution competes with them and lowers their market value/the amount of shit they can sell their pussy for.

Love this bit in the comments:

"...In my relationship I'm the one who wants more sex, but he's happy with it once a week. Where I get annoyed with porn in this regard is its ease. Sure we all like selfish easy satisfaction, but couple that with my boyfriend who doesn't want sex all that often anyhow- when he does want sex he expects me to bring my A game and be a darn porn star. And, if he has to put in too much work and effort, he's right back to preferring porn over sex. So in this scenario I'm the one working my a** off to get a lay!..."

Oh my. You have to work hard to get sex sometimes. I wonder what that's like?

Sounds like she's proving the author's point...

All this proves is society isnt meeting men's needs. Sex with a woman has become so expensive that men are turning to the virtual world to fulfill their needs. Likewise society has become so feminized that men are turning to video games to get the competition that they crave. The end result is that the average beta male will be less engaged then in the past.

Be wary of the lady that gets angry if you watch porn.. or be happy when she joins you.
