If you can budget the time, and depending on your situation, all of us, would do well to pick up a second job in the service industry in your city's entertainment district.

These are typically high turnover jobs so employers are forced to be flexible with workers that actually show up when they're scheduled. If you get one of these jobs BE RELIABLE. This will pay dividends.

Women want resources. You want sex. You have limited resources. A $10/hr (USD) PT job in a bar/club/venue/restaurant downtown is way better than any other part time job in any other industry or location. Why? Because any other 2nd job nets you the resource of your paycheck and maybe some networking.

What if I told you, you could raise SMV and Social Proof by putting more money (net) in your pocket? Usually this costs resources, right?

The businesses in the entertainment district are all tight knit. All the owners know each other. All the staff know all the staff from everywhere. It's high turnover so the bartender you worked with 3 months ago could be somewhere else. If you earned a reputation as a reliable, competent, member of staff, you new friends start hooking you up.

You bring a date to dinner. Because you know everyone there, you get hooked up. Does your date have to know? If you’re paying? No. If she’s paying? Or you go dutch? Why not? “My entrée was 17 dollars and we only got charged $5! OMG!“, she says. “Well, you’re with me, so…” smirk/wink as you reply.

You end up knowing most of the door guys. While everyone else is in line to get into the club, the doorman waives you by. Lone wolf, with a date, or with friends, everyone notices. No line and no cover charge for you. What if you are lone wolf and the line is huge. Ask a gaggle of girls if they’d like to skip the line. Check their ID’s and then pull them out of line and walk them through.

So, you’ve been to dinner, paid a lot less there. Been to the club and breezed past security with no cover. Drinks were cheap. She’s trying to figure out how all these people know you by name and hook you up. Then you go to a sold out show, with no ticket, and they let you in! No hassle, no haggle, no sneaking or bribing! How dope is that?

What about after parties? You know all about them before anyone else. What about underground parties? Those rock man! You’ve got the scoop on those too. You know all the DJ’s too.

All of this is worth WAY more than $10/hr and maybe some tips. Giving up a couple nights a week a couple or three weeks per month is well worth it. Take the paycheck and fatten the savings. Use the tips for play money.

When a celebrity goes out, staff and owners hook them up. This is why people envy famous people. Well, this, money, and worldwide fame. Everyone knows them. Everyone cuts them a deal. Everyone puts them in front. This is how you become a local celebrity and get the same treatment. What do you think this will do for your SMV?

If you have the time, you would do well to network yourself with the people that make nightlife possible behind the scenes. You’ll have more money in your pocket, spend less on nightlife, plus have mountains of social proof. Most of us either have time or money but rarely both. If you have more time than money, maximize it.

The last bit of advice, we (service industry) hate sloppy, out of control drunks. Manage yourself accordingly. It all stops once you get too hammered and shit in the bathroom sink.
